Building the Lakehouse

This is the first devlog I've posted that isn't just 'here are some bugfixes for a Twine game I wanted to rush out because I was excited', so bear with me.

Lakehouse is a very ambitious project, and not one that I imagined I could stick with for even this long. I have great difficulty in sharing my work publicly, even with close friends. However, as I work on Lakehouse, I'm finally starting to emerge from my shell and feel more okay than ever to create something that people can anticipate to be made.

With that context out of the way, I'll get straight down to it.

This project has enabled me to start making 3D models and environments again!

Using a floorplan I designed, I've been hewing the shape of the cabin from The Woods for use in the Lakehouse visual novel in 3D. This will be used either as references for background art from various perspectives, or shaded and rendered in a manner that suits the game's cohesive style.

For the scant few fans of the original game or series as a whole (with The Woods and The Investigation, Lakehouse is the third game in a series), there are finally visuals to associate with the scenes you're familiar with; you can see the Kitchen area, where you're pulled away by Justin resides in comparison to the basement at the back of the house clearly here.

The Living Room

The ideas at play in the living room are twofold, on one hand the CRT television inspires some idea of what era we as a group are living through, on the other hand it really hits home how wealthy Justin's family are. Notice, the lack of table is intentional, as his prissy parents wouldn't want any dirt getting on their precious sofa.

The Kitchen

Staying true to the pseudo-rustic ideals of the Lakehouse, this kitchen area leaves the owner wanting. I'm indecisive on the inclusion of a fridge so far, as power is already difficult to come by with the honking great television set out in the middle of nowhere; possibly running off of a generator in the basement or something. For now, this has all necessary inclusions.

The Bathroom

Patently 'better than an outhouse', this bathroom does what it needs to do. Space-efficient, the shower takes up less room than a bath (but try not hitting the door off of the towel rack, it's a mess).

Bedroom

Though I've yet to decide exactly how the furnishings of the L-shaped room look, that's the bedroom of the cabin and, if you play your cards right, you may get to see it in greater detail in the full release!

Conclusion

Hopefully, these glimpses at the meshes I've put together give you a great sense of place than the words I've written previously had. I'm pleased with my progress, and I'm happy to hear feedback if anyone has some suggestions for the project or mod cons that Justin's affluent family might include!
